Tanssitaanko taas – shall we dance again?

Nordic Open comes to Helsinki in 30–31 December 2025! The competition is part of EEDA’s (European Equality Dance Association) Grand Slam.

At Nordic Open, the competition categories in standard and latin are female, male and open.

The event will be held at Kamppi Sports Center (Kampin liikuntakeskus in Finnish), in Helsinki. Kamppi Sports Center is located in central Helsinki, in Kamppi area, approximately 15 min walk from the Central Railway Station.

More detailed schedule will be published closer to the event. Rainbow Dancers Finland is organizing the Nordic Open competition together with Buumi DanceSport and Vakita dance clubs.

All couples are welcome to enter the Open categories. On top of that, non-binary competitors may choose to enter either the Men’s or Women’s categories, but the chosen dance category gender must remain consistent throughout the competition.

We recognise that the chosen dance category gender of non-binary competitors does not necessarily reflect their gender identity, but rather the competition in which they prefer to participate, of non-binary competitors.

Dancers may take part in separate competitions with different partners, but please note that the time for breaks and costume changes may be short.

Classification

The adult disciplines will be danced in classes from A (top level) to D (novice). Classification rounds will be danced at the start of the tournament.

Within the registration we will ask you to state your own expected class, but the final competition class will be assigned by the judges during the classification rounds.

Dances and Music

In all competition rounds the music will be played for approximately 1 minutes and 45 seconds, except in Viennese Waltz and the Jive where it will be played for approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Standard

A class: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slowfox and Quickstep
B class: Waltz, Tango, Slowfox and Quickstep
C class: Waltz, Tango and Quickstep
D class: Waltz, Tango and Quickstep

Latin

A class: Samba, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso doble and Jive
B class: Samba, Cha-Cha, Rumba and Jive
C class: Cha-Cha, Rumba and Jive
D class: Cha-Cha, Rumba and Jive

In the preliminary rounds the Paso doble will be danced to the second highlight. In the finals it will be danced to the third.

Venue

The event will be held at Kamppi Sports Center (Kampin liikuntakeskus), in Helsinki. The competition will be danced on a wooden sports hall floor, which is approx. 250 square meters.

Please use heel protectors on the dance floor. Tanning sprays are not allowed at the venue.

How to get to Kamppi Sports Center?

Kamppi Sports Center is located at Helsinki city centre, in the Kamppi area. Kamppi is easily reachable from all directions of Helsinki by metro, bus, or tram. You can check the best route there by using HSL mobile app (App Store or Google Play Store) or the HSL website. You can also purchase tickets through the app. Tickets are not sold on board.

Please notice that HSL doesn’t recognise the English name Kamppi Sports Center – you should use the Finnish name Kampin liikuntakeskus.

Registration

We are delighted to announce that the registration for the Nordic Open 2025 has now been opened.

You can register for the competition and the New Year’s ball by filling in the registration form. All dancers need to register individually.

The last registration date is Monday, 8 December 2025.

Registration fee

Competition registration fee is 20 € per dancer. The payment instructions will be sent to your email after submitting the registration form.

The registration fees are non-refundable.

Outreach program

As part of the cultural exchange, Nordic Open has established an Outreach program, which provides economic support for competitors and a hosted housing program. The outreach program, among other things, caters to competitors from countries without progressive LGBTQIA+ policy.

Hosted housing

Do you need hosted housing? Please fill in the registration form, and we will do our best to organize your accommodation. Hosted housing is available for all the competitors.

Practice Session

Competitors are welcome to join a free practice session on Monday, December 29th, at 17.00–19.00. The practice session takes place at Balanssi Studios, located at the Cable Factory, Tallberginkatu 1D, 4th floor.

If you arrive early and would like to practice more, Tanssibuumi Dance Studio in Arinatie 4 is ready to serve you. For 7,5 € per person, you can practice for as many hours as you need to. Come to watch the competition and cheer for your favourite couples! Spectators are welcomed to the dance floor during breaks to dance social dances.

Tickets can be purchased on Rainbow Dancers’ webshop before the event, or at the door by card. Please notice – cash is not accepted.
